Involved in Our Local

During the course of our students’ stay here at London International Academy, they will be required to complete 20-40 hours of community service if they stay for one year. This is mandatory for students to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) upon graduating.

The community involvement requirement is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop awareness and understanding of civic responsibility. They can actively participate in supporting and strengthening their communities. It also provides the opportunity for students to
learn more about themselves and possible career opportunities.

Among the benefits of living and studying at our downtown campus are the close proximity of many volunteer options and the opportunity to be involved in the City of London.

Over the years, LIA has formed strong relationships with many non-profit organizations within the community.

LIA Volunteers

From environmental conservation and social welfare initiatives to education and healthcare support, our students actively contribute to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether they’re tutoring underprivileged children, organizing fundraising events for local charities, or participating in community clean-up campaigns, our students become valuable agents of change.

Volunteering not only enables students to develop a sense of empathy and social responsibility, but it also broadens their horizons by exposing them to different cultures, backgrounds, and societal challenges. By immersing themselves in real-world experiences, our students gain invaluable skills such as teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, fostering personal growth and character development.

Through our robust community service program, we empower our students to become compassionate global citizens who actively contribute to the betterment of society. By embracing the spirit of volunteerism, our students not only enrich their own lives but also cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse world around them.

How to Find a Volunteer Opportunity

There are various ways to find a volunteer opportunity.

  • Contacting local non-profit organizations: Many non-profit organizations in London rely on volunteers to help with various tasks. Contacting them directly to inquire about volunteer opportunities is a great way to get started.
  • Searching online: Many organizations and volunteer centres post volunteer opportunities on their websites or on online platforms such as Volunteer Canada and Volunteer London.
  • Contacting local government: London has a government-run volunteer centre that can provide information about volunteer opportunities in the area.
  • Joining a volunteer group: Joining a group that organizes volunteer events is a great way to meet like-minded people and make a difference in the community.
  • Searching for opportunities in your field of interest: Some organizations may have specific volunteer opportunities that align with certain fields such as education, healthcare, environment, and more.
  • Networking: Asking friends, family, or colleagues if they know of any volunteer opportunities can also be a good way to find something that matches your interests.

By using these methods, you should be able to find a volunteer opportunity that aligns with your interests, skills, and availability and contributes to making a positive impact on the community. Remember that some volunteer opportunities require commitment, training, or a background check, and some may require your availability only on specific days or times.
